What Is Stamp Collecting & Philately?

Several factors determine a stamp's value:
- Rarity: Limited print runs, printing errors, or stamps from short-lived postal periods are often more valuable
- Condition: Mint condition stamps with original gum, no creases, and perfect centering command premium prices
- Age: While not all old stamps are valuable, pre-1900 stamps often have collector interest
- Historical Significance: Stamps commemorating important events or featuring notable figures can be highly sought after
- Demand: Popular themes and countries with active collector bases maintain strong values
